Matriculation Year: 2021
Imperial College London
PhD, Mechanical Engineering

Hey everyone! My name is Wong Yew Hoe (or Ethan as my colleagues call me). I graduated from the National University of Singapore with a B.Eng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering with an Aeronautical Specialisation. I am currently pursing my PhD in Imperial College London.

My research is based under Imperial College's Rolls Royce Nuclear University Technoloy Centre, located within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. As I have always been interested in the modelling and simulation (M&S) side of Nuclear Reactors, the research that this department carries out matched my skills and research interests.

I am currently researching on Thermal Fatigue Modelling of T-Junction pipes within load-following nuclear power plants. Pipes play an extremely crucial role in nuclear power plants as they transport cooling water to the reactor and to spent fuel pools. Failure in these pipes could be catastrophic. My second phase of research involves the development of a computationally efficient Bayesian neural network (BNN) surrogate modelling framework for thermo-fluid and thermal stress analysis. The eventual goal is to couple the BNN surrogate model of the thermo-fluid and thermal stress analysis of the T-junction with a RELAP5-3D of the primary circuit of a standard PWR. This allows for design basis accidents (DBAs) to be investigated to ascertain the probability of thermal fatigue failure of the T-junction.

When I am not busy with work, I enjoy playing tennis (have been playing it since I was 10!) for Imperial's varsity team. I also actively do astrophotography from the city or from dark sites (away from the main city) if possible!
