EIC Phase B

Engineering Innovation Challenge Phase B

Following the success of EIC 2020, SNRSI strives to continue increasing the understanding of background radiation. In EIC 2020, about 100 Rad-X detectors were given out to participants and were used to collect data based on a weekly theme. The collection of data has been completed. The four weekly themes are schools, parks & green areas, residential area and daily life respectively. The map below shows the location of measurements collected.

For EIC 2021, participants are challenged to take up research questions provided by SNRSI. These questions are intended to provoke insights into ionizing radiation and hopeful raise awareness on this topic. The participants will have to choose a research question that they are interested in tackling. The research questions are meant to investigate many concepts of ionizing radiation. Some example are background radiation, factors affecting background radiation & sources of background radiation.

Around 100 Rad-X radiation detectors will be given to the participants of EIC 2021, and will be used to collect data based on the selected research questions. Some examples of research questions are:

  • Are higher floors of a building subject to higher background levels of ionizing radiation?
  • Do air-conditioned rooms have higher background levels of ionizing radiation?
  • Do handphones emit ionizing radiation?

The list of research question is provided here.
