Masters, Nuclear Energy Engineering
Hello, my name is Ditha. I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Nuclear Energy Engineering at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. I received a Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
During my undergraduate studies, I joined the Micro Reactor Heat Pipe (MRHP) research team at UGM. The MRHP is a microreactor that uses a sodium heat pipe as its main cooling system and molten salt as an intermediate coolant. The goal of this design was to address the need for affordable and reliable energy in Indonesia's frontier, outermost, and least developed (3T) regions. My thesis, titled "Radionuclides Release by Diffusion as a Consequence of Heat Pipe Failure in Micro Reactor Heat Pipe (MRHP)," analyzed the safety consequences of postulated accidents within MRHP's design.
This focus on safety continues to guide my studies today. At KTH, my master's programme emphasizes nuclear reactor technology and safety, drawing on the extensive operational experiences of Sweden and other countries. My coursework provides a comprehensive foundation in the field, allowing me to study the safety frameworks for both traditional, older-generation reactor fleets and emerging advanced designs, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
With nuclear energy becoming a serious option for many countries worldwide to increase their energy independence, including in the ASEAN region, safety is more crucial than ever. We are witnessing rapid innovations in advanced reactors, which utilize new fuel types and cooling technologies. I believe that for us to successfully build and operate commercial-scale nuclear power plants in ASEAN, we must fully understand both the risks and the benefits so we can implement these systems safely.
In my free time, I enjoy walking around the city and listening to music.
