Matriculation Year: 2022
Imperial College London
PhD, Materials

Hi, I’m Jason! I graduated from Imperial College London with a MEng (Hons) in Materials with Nuclear Engineering. I enjoyed my masters project so much that I continued it as a PhD student at Imperial. I was inspired by the real world importance of nuclear energy as a means to reach net zero, but my interest mostly stems from the mountain of exciting new discoveries and puzzles this field seems to generate daily.

As part of my research, I am contributing to the material selection process for the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP)- a fusion reactor being built in the UK. Specifically, how corrosion works in a nuclear environment. Figuring out how to limit corrosion when under the intense effects of radiation will help us keep our reactors running for longer and safer. I use computational corrosion models of stainless steels to test hypotheses and hope to one day create a simulation that explains and predicts experimental observations. My favourite part of my research is helping to create and test new hypotheses to explain weird corrosion phenomena that we observe under irradiation.

Outside of work, I enjoy a wide range of activities such as baking, bouldering and playing card games with friends.
