Lye Tee Siang Adolphus

Matriculation Year: 2018
University of Liverpool
PhD , Engineering

Hi everyone! My name is Adolphus Lye, currently undertaking a PhD programme in Risk & Uncertainty Quantification with applications to Nuclear Engineering. Prior to this, I undertook my Undergraduate  degree majoring in Physics and minoring in Mathematics.

I am based within University of Liverpool’s Institute for Risk & Uncertainty which is a centre of excellence for its multi-disciplinary research in the domain as suggested by its name. With a keen interest in Imprecise probability, Physics-based mathematical modelling, and Nuclear safety, I felt that this institute would be the perfect place to further my learning and understanding in the said areas.

For my current research, I am employing various numerical techniques in the discipline of uncertainty
quantification to perform on-line structural health monitoring as well as prognostics health management in engineering structures, especially for Nuclear power plants. The goal would be to produce estimates, under sparse data/information, on quantities such as the performance reliability, remaining useful life, and other health metrics along with their associated uncertainty bounds which capture the degree of belief we have on our estimates.

Studies aside, I enjoy doing Cross-country running and have been pursuing this sport since my Undergraduate days in NUS. But that being said, I am nowhere near the elite/national standard, hahas!

To end-off my introduction, I would like to share the following quote:
“It is my conviction that here are no limits to learning, and that it can never stop, no matter what our age.” – Cristiano Ronaldo
